András Baka took office today as president of Hungary, succeeding former ultranationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. His election was conducted by parliament, following the establishment of a new government led by conservative Péter Magyar.

Baka, a well-known European advocate, was elected Head of State on August 11, fulfilling a promise from Magyar's government. This change aims to remove figures loyal to Orbán from Hungarian institutions.

The new government aims to launch initiatives across various areas, attempting to reverse policies associated with the legacy of Orbán, who ruled the country for over a decade.

Baka's election signifies a significant shift in Hungary's political direction, with the new president adopting a European stance, in contrast to the heightened nationalism of his predecessor.

Sources indicate that Magyar's government intends to reform state structures, distancing what it calls 'puppets of Orbán's regime' and promoting greater integration with the European Union.

Baka, previously a judge at the European Court of Human Rights, now faces the challenge of uniting the country and implementing the changes promised by the new government.
