Anvisa approves first generic semaglutide for type 2 diabetes in Brazil
Anvisa has authorized the registration of the country's first generic semaglutide pen, manufactured by EMS.

The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) approved the registration of the first generic semaglutide pen aimed at treating type 2 diabetes in Brazil. The decision was published in the Official Gazette on Monday, the 17th.
The medication, whose active ingredient is semaglutide, will be manufactured by the pharmaceutical company EMS, the same company that produces Ozivy, another version of semaglutide. The approval occurred last Thursday, the 13th, and represents a step forward in access to treatments for the chronic disease.
Semaglutide is used in controlling type 2 diabetes and, at higher doses, is also applied in the treatment of obesity. The availability of the generic aims to improve treatment options and potentially reduce the costs associated with medications.
