David Vélez, owner of NuBank, has made a substantial financial contribution to help victims of the earthquake that struck Colombia on August 10. This seismic event had a magnitude of 7.4 and impacted several departments, including Chocó, Valle del Cauca, Caldas, and Risaralda.

According to Abelardo de la Espriella, lawyer and advisor to the President of Colombia, Vélez's donation is considered one of the largest gestures of private support in response to the emergency facing the country. His contribution is part of a broader effort to address the needs of families affected by this natural disaster.

The President of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, reported that a total of 289 fatalities have been recorded as a result of the earthquake, a figure that is 15 less than previously reported by the Institute of Legal Medicine, which had indicated 304 deaths.

Additionally, de la Espriella announced that over 120,328 families have been affected in the various municipalities impacted by the earthquake. This situation has led to an intense governmental and private response effort to assist those in need.

In his address, the President expressed that while the earth trembled, Colombia did not break, implying strength in the face of adversity. At the same time, 300 of the 304 bodies that have been recovered have been identified and returned to their families.

The media has highlighted the importance of Vélez's donation, as well as the ongoing need for support for those affected. The community hopes that more donations and assistance will continue to arrive in response to this devastating crisis.
