Diabetes Society warns of risk of losing medication subsidies
Patients needing diabetes medication must update their information to avoid losing subsidies.

The Portuguese Society of Diabetology (SPD) has issued a warning about the risk of losing subsidies for diabetes medications. According to the association, this situation arises from constraints in updating the National Registry of Users (RNU), which still requires users to verify their data in person at health centers.
The SPD further explains that this process is particularly concerning, as people with diabetes rely on the efficient management of their healthcare. The president of the SPD emphasized that diabetes does not wait for the resolution of issues related to digital processes.
The alert underscores the need for mechanisms that ensure the rapid and effective updating of data, in order to prevent users from losing access to essential medications. The association argues that developing solutions to facilitate access to these medications without the need for physical relocation is crucial.

Reports indicate that many users may face difficulties in obtaining the necessary subsidies for the purchase of their medications. Complaints about the bureaucracy involved in updating data in the RNU have been frequent among those affected.
The SPD continues to urge authorities to take measures to facilitate the updating of data in the RNU, ensuring that users do not experience interruptions in access to the medications they need.
