DRELM suspends in-person classes due to rain in South Lima
The DRELM has suspended classes in schools in South Lima due to heavy rains that have affected school infrastructure.

The Regional Directorate of Education of Metropolitan Lima (DRELM) announced the suspension of in-person classes on Monday, August 17, in schools affected by heavy rains in the South Lima region. Reports indicate that at least 15 schools have suffered significant damage due to climatic phenomena.
The Ministry of Education (Minedu) identified 20 schools in critical areas, focusing on regions such as Villa El Salvador, Villa María del Triunfo, and San Juan de Miraflores, where flooding and the collapse of drainage systems have complicated the situation for educational institutions. Inspections are ongoing to assess the condition of the affected school facilities.
The DRELM stated that in-person classes could gradually resume starting Tuesday, with most schools returning to in-person instruction. However, the most severely affected cases may remain remote for up to a week, depending on the conditions assessed by Minedu.
