Ex-husband of Maria da Penha arrested for violating protective measures
Marco Antônio Heredia Viveros, ex-husband of Maria da Penha, was arrested for violating protective measures in favor of his ex-wife and daughters.

On Sunday, August 9, Marco Antônio Heredia Viveros, ex-husband of Maria da Penha, was arrested in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The arrest was made for violating preventive measures that had been granted in favor of Maria da Penha and her two daughters.
The Public Ministry of Ceará (MPCE) requested the arrest after Viveros gave an interview in which he spoke about his ex-wife, violating court orders. The protective measures aim to ensure the safety of Maria da Penha and her daughters.

On the afternoon of Monday, August 10, the court confirmed the continuation of Viveros's preventive detention after he participated in a custody hearing in Natal. The duration of this detention is indefinite, as it is a preventive measure.
The Maria da Penha Law was created to combat domestic violence in Brazil, in honor of Maria da Penha Maia Fernandes, whose battle against violence gained national attention.
