Fire on Ferry in Indonesia Results in One Death and 172 Rescued

A ferry identified as KM Putri Yasmin caught fire while sailing between Bali and Lombok, Indonesia. The incident occurred on October 12, and the boat was carrying 131 passengers, of whom 172 were rescued by local authorities, including a contingent from the navy.

Sea conditions were challenging, with waves reaching four meters, complicating rescue operations. So far, it has been confirmed that one passenger perished in the incident. The causes of the fire have yet to be revealed.

Elements of the Indonesian authorities reported that they were unaware of the fire until half an hour after it began. One survivor said that help took several hours to arrive, raising questions about the response of the emergency teams.

The ferry had on board 44 vehicles and 53 motorcycles, which may further complicate rescue operations and the assessment of the fire's consequences. Although most passengers have been rescued, searches for those still missing continue.
