Helmets and High-Visibility Vests Mandatory for E-Scooter Users in Paris

Since Friday, the use of a helmet and a high-visibility vest has become mandatory for electric scooter users in Paris and the surrounding suburbs, including the departments of Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, and Val-de-Marne. This decision was made by the police prefecture in response to an increase in fatal accidents related to the use of these vehicles in the region.

According to a statement from the prefecture, violators face a flat fine of 135 euros for failing to wear a helmet. Additionally, not wearing a reflective vest can result in a fine of 35 euros. These measures aim to enhance road safety for users of scooters, gyropodes, and hoverboards.

The prefecture emphasized that this requirement applies at all times, without exception. The order was published on Friday, marking the start of the enforcement of these new safety rules.

This regulatory change comes as accidents involving scooters have increased in recent years, suggesting an urgent need for safety and prevention measures.
