Israel Initiates Criminal Probes into Deaths of Hind Rajab and Aid Workers
The Israeli military is opening investigations into the killings of a Palestinian girl and aid workers, with rights groups noting low conviction rates in similar cases.

The Israeli military announced it will open internal criminal investigations into the killings of five-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab and 15 emergency and aid workers in Gaza. These incidents occurred in January 2024 and March 2025 respectively. The military indicated that these decisions followed earlier probes conducted by its Fact-Finding and Assessment Mechanism.
The investigation was prompted after the military reviewed various incidents involving the deaths of Palestinians. According to reports, the military released findings regarding five such incidents, which included the deaths of several aid workers from World Central Kitchen charity in April 2025.
Hind Rajab was reportedly on the phone to paramedics for several hours before her body was located days later in Gaza City. The circumstances surrounding her death have drawn attention and concern internationally.

Rights groups have expressed skepticism regarding the effectiveness of these investigations, stating that criminal probes into Israeli forces for the deaths of Palestinians rarely result in convictions.
While the military has acknowledged these incidents and is proceeding with investigations, the historical context suggests that many previous cases have not led to accountability for the involved personnel.
The announcement came amid ongoing scrutiny of military conduct in conflict zones, with calls for greater transparency and adherence to international humanitarian standards.
