Jenrick Announces Community Work Requirement for Long-Term Benefits Claimants
The Reform Party's new policy mandates community service for long-term benefits claimants to maintain payments.

Robert Jenrick announced that under the new Reform Party policy, long-term benefits claimants will be required to participate in community work or risk losing their benefits. This initiative, named the 'welfare to work' policy, targets those who are deemed fit for work.
According to Jenrick, long-term claimants will need to undertake 20 hours of community work each week. The tasks will focus on cleaning local high streets and parks, as well as engaging in charitable activities.
The policy aims to encourage active participation in community improvement among those receiving benefits. Jenrick emphasized the need for accountability among recipients, suggesting that these measures will facilitate reintegration into the workforce.

In response to the announcement, representatives of health benefit claimants voiced their concerns. Reports indicate that more than half of the UK’s health benefit recipients could face the loss of their payments due to these new rules.
Claimants have expressed frustration regarding the characterization of their situation, rejecting the notion that they are 'scroungers.' They argue that many depend on these benefits for essential support, raising issues around the adequacy of available assistance.
The Reform UK proposal has generated significant public discussion about the balance between community responsibility and the needs of vulnerable individuals. The consequences of such a policy shift remain a point of contention among stakeholders.
