Niger Agencies Issue Flood Warnings for Kaduna and Surrounding States
Nigerian agencies warn of imminent flood risks in Kaduna, Niger, and several other states, urging assessments and community precautions.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has raised alarms regarding cracks detected at a dam in Kaduna, highlighting potential flood risks. The agency has called on the federal and Kaduna state governments, alongside the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to urgently evaluate the situation and address the cracks observed at the dam.
In a related warning, the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA) has forecast a significant risk of riverine flooding across Kaduna, Niger, Delta, and 30 additional states within the next week. This forecast, valid from August 19 to 25, emphasizes the need for immediate action by local communities and agencies.
NiHSA has specifically instructed residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to higher ground as a precautionary measure. This warning serves as a response to anticipated heavy rainfall and rising river levels that could contribute to flooding incidents in the affected regions.

Officials from both NSEMA and NiHSA have emphasized the critical need for thorough assessments of infrastructure and public safety measures to mitigate the impact of potential floods in these areas. They are also appealing for collaboration from various governmental and emergency response agencies in managing the situation.
This series of warnings emerges amidst increasing concerns regarding weather patterns and hydrological conditions across Nigeria, raising the urgency for community preparedness and government response in safeguarding lives and property. The public is advised to stay informed on developments from these agencies throughout the forecast period.
