Public debt reaches record €1.76 trillion in June
Despite the increase in public debt, its ratio to GDP has decreased in June 2026.

Public debt in Spain rose by 4.2% in June 2026, reaching a new high of €1.76 trillion. This increase follows a debt level of €1.739 trillion in March of this year, marking a monthly rise of 1.9%.
According to the published data, public debt now represents 101.5% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which indicates a decrease of nearly two percentage points compared to the previous year. This reduction in the weight of debt relative to GDP occurs despite its absolute growth.

The majority of the liabilities are concentrated in the State, which has increased its negative balance by €67.5 billion over the past twelve months. This figure highlights the financial pressure the government faces in managing its public debt.
Various sources report that while total public debt has reached record levels, a downward trend is observed in its proportion relative to GDP, suggesting a shift in the dynamics of public finance management.
