The impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte is currently in its seventh week and is set to commence Day 16 on August 17, 2026. The prosecution continues to present evidence related to the alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds associated with the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education.

On August 17, several devices in the session hall emitted weather alerts, prompting laughter among attendees. Simultaneously, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) issued a warning about potential heavy rains.

Inclement weather has impacted the trial's schedule, leading to the early suspension of the session on August 17. The presiding officer informed the parties that the trial will only be held until 2 p.m. that day, with plans to reconvene at 2:30 p.m.

This marks the second postponement of the impeachment trial due to adverse weather conditions, with the first incident occurring on August 10. The unpredictable weather has initiated discussions regarding the trial's timetable.

During the session, Senator-judge Erwin Tulfo questioned Gina Acosta, a special disbursing officer, concerning her understanding of Tagalog, suggesting inconsistencies with her prior testimony in an earlier House hearing. This exchange drew attention to the competence of the witnesses involved in the case.

Additionally, Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano was reported absent again from the impeachment trial. His absence has been noted without any explanation provided by his office, as confirmed by Senate Secretary Renato Bantug.
