The U.S. Supreme Court decided on Monday to reject a final appeal from Donald Trump regarding a payout to E. Jean Carroll, a writer and former journalist. This decision means Trump is required to pay $5.6 million to Carroll following an April 2023 verdict in which he was found liable for sexual abuse and defamation.

E. Jean Carroll accuses Trump of sexually assaulting her in a department store fitting room in New York in 1996, after which he defamed her by denying her allegations. The Supreme Court thus upheld a jury's decision that ordered the former president to provide compensation for the damages caused by his statements.

This case, which has attracted media attention, was marked by Trump’s attempts to contest the verdict. He had requested the Supreme Court to review the civil judgment against him, but the court unanimously refused to consider this request. This rejection is a significant setback for Trump as he faces multiple legal challenges.

There remains another pending proceeding against Trump concerning Carroll's second defamation claim, amounting to $83.3 million, which has yet to be resolved by the courts.

According to multiple sources, this Supreme Court decision follows a pattern where Trump's appeals in similar cases have often been dismissed, highlighting the strength of Carroll's allegations. This case is part of a broader context of accusations against Trump regarding his behavior towards women.

Trump, who is facing not only civil allegations, is also navigating political challenges as he prepares for a potential presidential campaign, making this legal situation even more complicated.
