United States intercepts more than 50 merchant ships near Iran
Centcom forces have detained vessels heading to or from Iranian ports since July.
Since the resumption of the naval blockade on Iran's ports and coasts, U.S. Central Command (Centcom) forces have intercepted more than 50 merchant ships. The measure began in mid-July, following the collapse of a temporary agreement aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The intercepted vessels were en route to Iranian ports or coming from them. This action is part of Washington's efforts to regulate maritime traffic in the region amidst geopolitical tensions in the area.
