On August 13, 2022, the construction of the Berlin Wall marked its 65th anniversary. According to a report from Der Tagesspiegel, Axel Klausmeier, the director of the Berlin Wall Foundation, sees a significant need for more teaching content on the history of the GDR in schools.
The foundation is calling for a revision of the curriculum to better integrate the dimensions of GDR history into the educational process. This initiative takes place in the context of ongoing discussions about German division and its consequences.
