7.4 magnitude earthquake shakes Colombia, causing injuries and structural damage

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Colombia on August 10, with its epicenter in San José del Palmar, in the Chocó department. According to the Colombian Geological Service, the quake occurred at a depth of 82 kilometers and was felt in cities such as Bogotá, Cali, Manizales, and Pereira, causing alarm among residents.
Reports indicate that at least 47 people were injured, some seriously, particularly in the departmental capital, Quibdó, where local authorities reported significant structural damage. The governor of Chocó, Nubia Carolina Córdoba, confirmed that buildings in Quibdó suffered severe damage and warned of an emergency situation in the area.
Additionally, damage was recorded at Pereira airport, where part of the roof detached while several people were inside the facility, although no injuries were reported in this location.
