7.7 magnitude earthquake strikes Indonesia coast, triggering tsunami warning

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Indonesia in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 15, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake had its epicenter in the Flores region, at a depth of 10 kilometers, and was recorded at 5:58 a.m. local time.

Indonesian authorities issued an initial tsunami warning following the tremor, although no damage or casualties have been reported thus far. However, there have been reports of aftershocks, the strongest being 6.3 in magnitude.

The USGS indicated that the earthquake's epicenter was located about 68 kilometers north-northwest of the city of Ende, in the East Nusa Tenggara province. Following the seismic event, several media outlets and local authorities began monitoring the situation due to the potential for anomalous waves on nearby coasts.
