According to the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK), more than 97 percent of the approximately 10,300 planned positions for contracted doctors were filled as of August 1. Notably, Tirol has a higher percentage of vacancies among specialists, with a gap of 6.5 percent, while Burgenland is facing a shortage of general practitioners, where the vacancy rate stands at 4 percent.

Currently, there are 94 vacancies in general medicine and 92 among specialists. Health Minister Korinna Schumann (SPÖ) reports that despite the waiting times, medical care in Austria is secure. These reports highlight the ongoing challenges in the healthcare system.
