A fireworks mishap in Altea leaves 27 injured

During the fireworks display at the Castell de l’Olla in Altea, Alicante, a pyrotechnic shell veered off course and struck the beach, leaving at least 27 people injured. According to a report from ‘Ahora Marina Baixa’, 14 affected individuals were transported to IMED Hospital, while 11 of them were referred to the Burn Unit at the Alicante General University Hospital.

El Periódico El País also reported that the injured included several who were treated for contusions following the incident. According to El Mundo, many of the affected individuals sustained injuries from tripping over the stones on the beach while trying to flee in a rush from the area of the display.

Local authorities confirmed that the situation arose because the shell traveled further than expected before impacting, as communicated by 20minutos. It was detailed that emergency services responded quickly to assist the injured at the scene of the accident.

José Pérez, president of the Castell de l'Olla Brotherhood, stated that most of the injured not only suffered injuries from the impact but also from the uncontrolled reaction of the crowd trying to escape the area. This complicated rescue efforts during the event.

So far, no official report has been issued detailing the precise causes of the shell's deviation, but the incident has generated attention and concern within the community regarding the safety of fireworks displays.
