The leader of the AfD, Alice Weidel, made it clear in a summer interview with ZDF that she aims for a withdrawal from the euro and the closure of Germany's borders. Weidel described the euro as an "unstable currency" and referred to it as a "soft currency," highlighting her rejection of the European monetary union.

Weidel also expressed the opinion that the Schengen Agreement, which allows for free movement of people between Schengen countries, should be "terminated." This position is part of the AfD's political agenda, which includes calls for border control and a restrictive migration policy.

During the interview, Weidel also addressed the current government, sharply criticizing the "wimps" in politics, indicating her direct confrontation with the political opposition.
