AHS teachers' union calls for laptops in schools instead of for each student

The AHS teachers' union has suggested that schools should receive laptops or tablets for institutional use instead of distributing devices individually to students. According to current budget cuts in the education sector, these devices are set to be issued starting from the 2027/28 school year only from the second grade of middle school and lower secondary level, representing a shift from previous plans.

Georg Stockinger, the new chairman of the AHS teachers' union, spoke positively about this change for pedagogical reasons. He sees providing laptops for schools rather than for each student as a sensible approach to promote the integration of digital basic education.

Stockinger also emphasizes that the current situation in schools is marked by a lack of qualified teachers for digital basic education. He therefore calls for a new model that optimizes the digital equipment of schools and supports usage in classrooms.
