Amanal Petros wins marathon gold at the European Athletics Championships

Amanal Petros won the gold medal in the marathon at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. The 31-year-old German finished with a time of 2:09:11 hours, setting a new European Championship record. Petros, who had already secured second place at the World Championships in Tokyo 2023, impressively proved his role as favorite in this race.

After breaking away from the rest of the field early in the race, Petros ran a solo effort for about 20 kilometers. His closest competitor, Pietro Riva from Italy, was unable to keep pace and finished the race with a significant gap behind him.
