The first day of the America's Cup preliminary races in Naples faced delays due to a lack of wind in the Gulf. The originally scheduled start was postponed by an hour, with boats stationary at sea. The first race was later neutralized due to adverse weather conditions.

New attempts were scheduled throughout the day, but the second race was also canceled because of the lack of wind. Only in the afternoon did conditions improve, allowing the organizers to launch the first fleet race.

In this first race, Team Arc USA surprised everyone by securing first place after starting in the Gulf of Naples. Luna Rossa, the Italian boat, had the opportunity to test its skills but was unable to prevail on this occasion.

In the second fleet race, however, Luna Rossa managed to dominate the competition, surpassing the Swiss boat Alinghi. This success led the Italian team to a convincing affirmation, especially following an incident involving La Roche-Posay, which resulted in a fall into the water.

At the end of the two preliminary races, Luna Rossa sits atop the standings with 19 points, followed by American Racing and New Zealand with 14 points. This scenario suggests a tight showdown in the upcoming racing days.

The only official comment from Ugolini of Luna Rossa noted satisfaction with the start and expressed hopes for further good results in future races.
