Italy is facing an additional period of extreme heat that could last for another ten days, with temperatures in Naples already reaching 48 degrees. According to reports, 26 cities are currently under red alert due to the high temperatures, although previously there had been an alert for all 27 monitored cities.

However, meteorological authorities have warned that the number of cities under red alert will decline to 19 over the weekend. The climate situation is becoming more complicated, as thunderstorms are anticipated in the north and fire alerts in the central and southern parts of the country.

Additionally, the Aurina Valley is cut off due to a landslide. The alert is also accompanied by a drought warning affecting particularly the northern regions, with water reserves in Lombardy halved.

Alpine guides report that safety conditions are not guaranteed on many routes, jeopardizing the climbing season as well. This signals a further impact of the bad weather on various economic and recreational activities.

In addition to the concentration of red alerts for high temperatures, heavy rains are reported in the north, along with a weather warning in eight regions, including Lombardy, Lazio, and Abruzzo, from the Civil Protection.

Finally, the weekend is expected to see a massive exodus with around 25 million cars anticipated on the roads, which could further complicate the already difficult weather situation.
