Arsenal has initiated talks with Bayer Leverkusen regarding the potential transfer of Jarell Quansah. The club is reportedly prepared to meet the asking price of at least €50 million (£43 million) for the England defender. Quansah joined Leverkusen from Liverpool last summer for an initial fee of £30 million, which included a buy-back clause for the Reds.

The discussions come as Arsenal seeks to strengthen its defensive options due to injuries affecting key players William Saliba and Jurriën Timber. Both defenders are currently sidelined, prompting the Gunners to look for suitable replacements.

Quansah has emerged as a target for Arsenal, having been a part of Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad. His experience and skill set align with the Gunners' immediate needs in defense.

In addition to Quansah, Arsenal has been linked with interest in Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa as a potential addition to their squad. However, the focus remains on securing a deal for Quansah at this stage.

Liverpool's initial sale of Quansah included a provision that may allow them to re-sign him in the future should Arsenal’s bid go through. The buy-back clause remains a critical factor in any negotiation with Leverkusen, although the club's priority is to finalize the current transfer discussion.

These developments in the transfer market underline Arsenal's strategic approach in addressing the current squad challenges, especially in light of defensive injuries. The club continues to monitor various options ahead of the upcoming fixtures.
