Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, expressed the club's interest in Argentine striker Julián Álvarez from Atlético de Madrid in statements made to the club's official media. Despite these claims, the Catalan club has encountered strong opposition from Atlético.

The Board of Directors of Atlético de Madrid has issued a categorical statement denying any possibility of negotiations with Barcelona regarding the transfer of Álvarez. The statement emphasizes that "there has neither been nor will there be negotiations" with the Catalan club concerning the player.

Atlético de Madrid has firmly supported this stance, indicating that it believes the Catalan entity has not acted in an ethical and professional manner throughout this process. The rojiblanco club hopes that Julián Álvarez understands the decision made by his team.

From Atlético, it is underscored that there is no intention to listen to offers or engage in discussions with Barcelona regarding the Argentine player, aligning with the strategy of the Board and expressing unity on this matter.

Several media outlets, including Marca and El Mundo, have corroborated this categorical denial and the unanimous backing of the Board in its decision, while Laporta continues to insist on the possibility of the signing, without altering Atlético's position.

Reports indicate that this situation is generating tensions between both entities, although Atlético remains steadfast in not considering Barcelona a legitimate negotiator in this matter.
