Barack Obama, the former President of the United States, has arrived in Portugal to participate in the sixth edition of the Game Changers Forum 2026, which takes place on October 10 at the MEO Arena in Lisbon. During the event, designed to address topics such as leadership and resilience, Obama will serve as the keynote speaker and the event is open to the public.

On his previous visit to Portugal, Obama was in the country in November 2010 during the EU and NATO summits, where he represented the United States on international policy issues.

According to SAPO 24, Obama shared insights on the rapid evolution of technology contrasted with the sluggishness of governments to adapt to these changes. The discussion includes topics such as the rivalry between the U.S. and China in the field of artificial intelligence, as well as reflections on youth participation in the global conversation.

The event is highly anticipated, especially considering that it comes less than a month before the midterm elections in the United States, a moment that may influence public attention on the issues being addressed.

In addition to the Game Changers Forum, Obama met with António José Seguro to discuss current international affairs. This meeting, according to information from Observador, was aimed at exchanging views on the current global situation.

Further reports indicate that Obama’s visit comes amid heightened tensions, intensified by a recent attack on the airport in Riyadh, which resulted in at least two fatalities, although there is no direct link to his presence in Portugal.
