The Dutch bicycle manufacturer Accell, known for the brands Batavus, Sparta, Babboe, and Koga, was declared bankrupt by the court in Amsterdam on Tuesday. This bankruptcy has been confirmed by the curators.

Accell had been facing financial difficulties for some time. During the coronavirus crisis, the company encountered issues with the delivery of parts, which ultimately led to a backlog in production.

After the supply issues were resolved, it became apparent that demand for bicycles had decreased, leaving the company with large inventories. This contributed to the company's financial situation.

The curators have emphasized in their messages that the future of the brands under Accell is now uncertain. This concerns not only the more well-known brands but also the product lines of other items.

Due to the bankruptcy, bicycle owners are advised to contact their retailer for information regarding warranty and support, but the exact consequences for them are not yet clear. This may involve repairs and potential replacements.
