Botafogo faces crisis after heavy defeat and coaching change
Botafogo is preparing for its match against Cienciano in the Copa Sudamericana following a heavy loss and the firing of its coach.
Botafogo, one of the most traditional clubs in the Brasileirao, is in a critical situation after suffering a heavy 6-1 defeat against Cienciano in Cusco in the 2026 Copa Sudamericana. To turn the series around, they need to score six goals in the return match to be held at Estádio Nilton Santos.
As an immediate consequence of the heavy defeat, the club decided to fire their coach Franclim Carvalho. In his place, Rodrigo Bellao, current coach of the under-20 team, will take over as interim manager and will be responsible for leading the next match against Cienciano.
