The Brazilian ministries of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture issued a joint statement on Thursday (3) criticizing the European Union's ban on the sale of Brazilian beef, which took effect on the same date. The government stated that it reserves the right to utilize available legal instruments to ensure balanced trade conditions, including the possibility of reciprocal measures.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) also commented on the situation, indicating that the government may resort to the Reciprocity Law if the ban cannot be reversed. This action aims to protect Brazil's interests in the European market.

In addition to the beef issue, the Brazilian government also mentioned that it expects to return to the list of suppliers of honey and poultry meat by the European Union. The Ministry of Agriculture announced on Friday (4) that the European bloc considered Brazilian sanitary controls and official procedures to be 'satisfactory.'

Based on audits conducted by the European Union, Brazil's exports of honey and poultry meat are expected to be restored soon, according to information from the Ministry of Agriculture. These products were temporarily suspended due to sanitary concerns.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian government continues to hope that the ongoing technical dialogue will result in a quick solution to the beef ban. This approach is seen as part of Brazil's strategy to address trade issues with the European Union.

The situation revealed in the government's statements highlights the tensions between Brazil and the European Union. While expectations regarding the restoration of honey and poultry meat trade are positive, the beef ban still creates uncertainties about commercial relations between the two parties.
