Priyanka Gandhi has called for the criminal prosecution of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of treason for allegedly undermining the democratic electoral process. She emphasized that any actions that manipulate elections constitute a betrayal against the nation.

In addition to Gandhi's statement, various leaders and parties, including Thirumavalavan, have urged for Kumar's resignation. Thirumavalavan specifically requested the President to halt all activities related to the SIR initiative and seek Kumar's removal to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry into the actions of Gyanesh Kumar. The petition contends that any intentional manipulation of electoral records or processes cannot be deemed part of Kumar's official duties, highlighting the severity of the allegations against him.

Amid the uproar, Chirag Paswan has expressed the need for the Election Commission to clarify internal dissent related to the SIR project to maintain public trust. He indicated that transparency is essential in addressing concerns about the electoral body's decisions related to voter registration and data management.

Moreover, Pinarayi Vijayan, the Leader of Opposition in Kerala, has also called for Kumar's removal and the cessation of the SIR project, citing serious concerns over the electoral Commission’s functionality based on objections raised by two Election Commissioners.

Left parties have planned a week-long nationwide protest beginning September 26, advocating for Gyanesh Kumar's removal and the suspension of the SIR initiative. They are urging all non-BJP, secular, and democratic entities to join in this campaign, reflecting widespread discontent regarding the electoral process.
