Canada reacts to Donald Trump's tariffs
The Canadian government targets key American products in response to tariffs imposed by Trump.

In response to the trade war initiated by Donald Trump, Canada has decided to retaliate by imposing tariffs on influential products from Republican states such as Wisconsin, Vermont, and Iowa. This strategy is being implemented as the midterm elections approach in the United States, aiming to put pressure on American voters.
At the same time, a member of the Democratic party has proposed a bill seeking to end the tariffs established by Trump. However, this proposal faces significant obstacles, as there is little chance it will be passed by a Congress controlled by Republicans.
Trump's trade policies have themselves been marked by frequent reversals, having changed more than 50 times since January 2025. These changes were driven by threats and negotiations, but they have not achieved the expected goals in terms of reducing trade deficits, prices, or relocating industries.

Moreover, French companies are involved in this dynamic. According to sources, about 10 billion euros related to imports of "made in France" products were refunded following a decision by the Supreme Court in February. It appears that these refunds often favor American importers rather than the French companies themselves.
These developments illustrate how Trump's actions regarding tariffs have both domestic and international impacts, provoking varied reactions among businesses and foreign governments.
