Canada has planned to respond to the new 50% U.S. tariffs that have come into effect. Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that this response will take effect on September 8.

Mark Carney expressed his determination to adopt a "dollar for dollar" response to Donald Trump's threats. He also mentioned the possibility of limiting exports of electricity and critical minerals to the United States in retaliation for U.S. actions.

Carney was not surprised by the escalation of trade tensions, particularly by the new tariff threats issued by Trump. He emphasized that this situation was to be expected given the current state of trade relations between the two countries.

At the same time, the Québec solidaire party has presented its own plan to counter these measures, including increasing the price of electricity sold by Hydro-Québec to the United States, highlighting a commitment not to succumb to American pressures.
