Candidates criticize cancellation of Globo debate due to judicial decisions
Presidential candidates lamented the cancellation of the Globo TV debate due to judicial interventions, directing criticism toward the judiciary.

On Thursday, October 1, the presidential debate scheduled to be held by TV Globo was canceled due to interventions from the judiciary, specifically from the TSE and STF, which altered the previously agreed-upon rules. Candidates in attendance expressed regret over the decision, emphasizing the debate's importance for the democratic process.
Ronaldo Caiado, the presidential candidate from the PSD, stated that the cancellation of the debate is an attack on democracy and labeled the judiciary as a "tragic protagonist" of the election. In his remarks, Caiado criticized the changes imposed by the courts, expressing a feeling of complete contamination in the electoral process.
Another candidate, Augusto Cury from Avante, also weighed in on the issue, focusing on the growing influence of the STF in electoral matters. Cury voiced concerns regarding the role that the judiciary should play in a democratic system, emphasizing that judicial decisions should be foundational matters, not ones of prominence.

According to legal experts and press entities, the series of judicial decisions that resulted in the cancellation of the debate was criticized for causing legal uncertainty. The organizations asserted that the cancellation deprived voters of a platform to compare proposals and hear the candidates in open discussion.
The cancellation quickly resonated, sparking a debate within the legal sector regarding the decision to suspend the event on the eve of its occurrence, significantly affecting the ongoing electoral process. Various criticisms were aimed at the judicial measures that, according to specialists, were not aligned with promoting free competition in the election.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva referred to his decision not to participate in the debate as a "disaster" for Globo, highlighting the existing tension between the broadcaster and the actions of the judiciary. The reactions from candidates and authorities reflect an atmosphere of insecurity regarding the electoral dynamics and the rules governing them.
