Comcast Transforms Xfinity Routers into Motion Detectors
Comcast is launching a new motion sensing feature on its routers, allowing them to detect activity in homes without additional hardware.

Comcast has announced the introduction of a motion sensing feature for its Xfinity routers, enabling them to detect movement in homes. This capability is part of the new Xfinity Shield service and will be available at no extra cost to customers with compatible routers. According to reports, the update is being rolled out via the Xfinity Internet app starting on August 18th.
The feature, referred to as Wi-Fi Motion, utilizes existing Wi-Fi technology to monitor activity within a home, eliminating the need for traditional motion sensors. As detailed by various sources, this enhancement aims to provide homeowners with additional monitoring options without requiring additional hardware.
In response to potential privacy concerns, the Wi-Fi Motion feature will be opt-in, allowing users to choose whether or not to enable it. This approach has been highlighted as a means to address users' apprehensions about privacy and data security while benefiting from new technology.
