The Higher Education Union has expressed concern about the percentage of low-income students placed in the first phase of access to higher education. This year, only 3% of the total 49,991 students placed belong to this economic group, a decrease from 2025, when they represented 3.5%.

The situation has been highlighted by several media outlets, including Público and RTP, which emphasize the importance of addressing inequality in access to higher education.

The reduction in the proportion of poorer students has raised alarms among unions, which fear the social and educational implications of this evolving trend.
