Cyberattack on Crédit Mutuel Arkéa: Diversion Estimated at Over 100 Million Euros
Crédit Mutuel Arkéa has suffered a cyberattack that led to fraudulent operations and losses exceeding 100 million euros, with no impact on customers.

Crédit Mutuel Arkéa recently announced that it was the victim of a cyberattack that enabled fraudulent operations. The bank, based in Brittany, reported that the diverted funds were estimated to be over 100 million euros, with some reports specifying an amount precisely estimated at 118 million euros.
According to various media outlets, hackers used the bank's own account to execute transactions to other banking entities. The funds were subsequently converted into cryptocurrencies through specialized platforms, highlighting the sophistication of the attack.
Despite these fraudulent operations, the bank assured that customers would not face any financial consequences. It has proactively suspended certain transactions to secure its operations and stated that the incident is now under control. Some sources report that an investigation has been opened by the Paris public prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances of the cyberattack.

The origin of this cyberattack is believed to be linked to a previous attack on a service provider of the group, which took place at the end of October. Information about the breach began to circulate on social media starting November 1, leading to increased awareness of vulnerabilities in European banks.
Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, through its communications, continues to monitor the situation and hopes to recover some of the diverted sums. However, the group has not yet communicated specific figures concerning the amount of incurred losses or the impacts on its normal operations in the long term.
This cyberattack raises questions about the security of financial institutions in the face of increasing threats in the digital realm, emphasizing the need to enhance security measures and data protection within the banking sector.
