Cyclone Arnab Triggers Alerts and Fatalities in India
Cyclone Arnab has caused heavy rains and fatalities in Andhra Pradesh and triggered alerts in Jharkhand and Telangana.

Cyclone Arnab has made landfall in Andhra Pradesh as a 'very severe' cyclonic storm, resulting in at least eight fatalities as reported by multiple sources. The cyclone's impact has been significant, leading to extensive damage across the state, including uprooted trees and downed power lines. Many communities are facing flooding and blackouts, prompting Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to appeal for central government assistance to manage the disaster.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that Cyclone Arnab will likely bring heavy rains, thunderstorms, and gusty winds lasting for three days in Jharkhand, prompting a 'yellow' alert for eight districts beginning at 8:30 a.m. on October 28. Additionally, the cyclone may affect rainfall patterns in Telangana, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures by up to 2.5°C.
In response to the cyclone, municipal officials in Andhra Pradesh have been instructed to ensure swift action to clear roads, prevent waterlogging, and maintain uninterrupted water supply and sanitation in urban areas. Authorities are on high alert as they address the impacts of the cyclone on public infrastructure.

Reports indicate that Visakhapatnam district recorded 147.9 mm of rain within a single day, leading to significant disruptions, including cancelled bus services and closure of beaches. Fallen trees and waterlogged roads have created hazardous conditions for residents and emergency responders.
The estimated economic loss due to Cyclone Arnab in Andhra Pradesh is pegged at ₹4,600 crore. A central team is expected to arrive on October 30 to assess the extent of the damage. Furthermore, Andhra Pradesh has requested assistance from Telangana, seeking deployment of 1,000 personnel for power restoration work in the Godavari region; relief efforts are underway for affected farmers, fishermen, and households.
As Cyclone Arnab continues to affect various regions, the IMD has issued warnings of a low-pressure system forming in the Andaman Sea, which may develop into a depression by October 31. This evolving weather situation requires ongoing monitoring as the government prepares to address both immediate and long-term recovery efforts.
