Datafolha: Survey Reveals Brazilian Opinions on Assisted Death
A Datafolha study shows that most Brazilians oppose euthanasia and assisted suicide but reveals divisions on the discontinuation of prolonged treatments.
A survey conducted by Datafolha revealed that the majority of Brazilians oppose assisted death, which includes euthanasia and assisted suicide, but opinions are divided when it comes to ending treatments that merely prolong life.
According to the results, 56% of respondents expressed opposition to euthanasia, while 39% supported the practice. The numbers regarding assisted suicide are similar, showing significant rejection.
However, the survey indicated that there is no consensus around the discontinuation of treatments, with part of the population in favor of this option, especially in cases of incurable diseases that cause suffering.
This survey is the first to investigate Brazilian public opinion on assisted death and was released on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
