Death of Jason Arday: Calls for Investigation into Harassment Campaign

Jason Arday, a former professor at the University of Cambridge, was found dead on Friday. A petition has been launched, gathering over 31,000 signatures, demanding a public inquiry into the media treatment Arday received. Several Members of Parliament are supporting this initiative, seeking clarification on the circumstances surrounding his death and the pressures he faced.

According to reports, Arday was the first Black professor to join Cambridge as a member of Jesus College. He resigned last August while the university and college were investigating allegations of plagiarism against him. His time in the spotlight was marked by accusations that had significant repercussions for his career.

The activist group 'Good Law Project' expressed its support for Arday during this difficult time. Concerns raised by his friends and colleagues primarily focus on the racism and media harassment he suffered, as stated in their comments on social media.

At this stage, police do not consider Jason Arday's death suspicious, indicating that their investigation is focusing on the circumstances surrounding his death and the events leading up to it.
