In the semifinals of the 110 meters hurdles at the European Championship, Quique Llopis and Asier Martínez did not qualify for the final. Llopis, representing Navarra, finished in fourth place in the first semifinal with a time of 13.45 seconds, while Martínez, from Valencia, placed third in the second semifinal but with a slower time of 13.47 seconds, which was insufficient to advance.

Both Spanish athletes were considered strong medal contenders in this championship, making their elimination even more disappointing. According to El Mundo, Llopis was aware that he did not reach his best form and highlighted the pressure to compete at 101%.

ABC reported that this day was particularly grim for the Spanish team, as, in addition to the eliminations of Llopis and Martínez, Esperança Cladera also suffered an injury in the 200 meters, adding a bitter note to the afternoon of competition.

Amidst the disappointment, the only bright spot for the Spanish team came from the standout performance of Jaël Bestué, who advanced to the semifinals of the 200 meters, shining in a day that otherwise would have been completely negative for the team.
