The Democratic Republic of the Congo has launched an emergency initiative between Kisangani and Kinshasa to prevent the spread of the Bundibugyo virus. This program was established in response to the accelerated transmission of Ebola, which has recently affected several provinces in the country.

According to an official statement, this initiative has been specifically designed to monitor the Congo River, viewed as a potential transmission route for the virus. Health authorities are particularly concerned about this situation, as the epidemic has spread from one to six provinces in just three months.

To enhance this vigilance, increased monitoring of boats operating on the river is also planned. Government representatives have emphasized the importance of this initiative to prevent the disease from reaching Kinshasa, the capital of the country.

The port of Bende-Bende has been identified as one of the main transit points to Kinshasa, and security measures related to it have been intensified. Authorities fear that a detected case of Ebola in this region could lead to a public health disaster.

The initiative, named "Congo River Free of Ebola," aims to coordinate surveillance and prevention efforts across the entire riverfront. Congolese authorities hope to contain any possibility of the virus spreading between provinces.

Recent reports indicate that the speed of Ebola's transmission is raising concerns among health professionals, who continue to actively monitor the situation along the river.
