According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), the revenue of the Dutch semiconductor industry, also known as the chip sector, has doubled in six years. In 2022, the revenue was €46 billion, compared to €21.3 billion in 2019.

The doubling of revenue can partly be attributed to the growth of various companies that have increasingly focused on chips. This particularly concerns the portion of revenue related to the chip industry.

The CBS indicates that chips are produced through collaboration among different types of companies. Chips are rarely produced by only one type of company; instead, they result from a chain of enterprises involved in the design, manufacturing, and other related activities.

Thus, the chip industry is not solely concerned with the direct production of chips but also includes companies that contribute in various ways to the process. This creates a diverse ecosystem in which chip production occurs, involving different players.

The growing importance of chips in various technologies and products has led to additional jobs in the sector. This indicates an expanding labor market associated with the development and production of semiconductors.

The CBS presented these figures as part of a broader analysis of developments in the Dutch industry, which also highlights other sectors.
