Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has requested parliamentary approval for authorization to support Saudi Arabia in case assistance is required. His statements follow a series of escalated Houthi attacks on the kingdom, which have raised concerns regarding its security.

In his address, Sisi confirmed that Egypt would take 'any measure' to assist in defending Saudi Arabia if such a request is made. He emphasized that while Egypt aims to avoid involvement in regional conflicts, it will not stand idle if Saudi Arabia's security is threatened.

The backdrop to Sisi's comments involves ongoing Houthi missile and drone assaults targeting various locations within Saudi Arabia, including oil installations and airports. These attacks have intensified since July, marking a resurgence of conflict in the region.

Recent reports indicate that Saudi Arabia has successfully intercepted multiple drone threats over Riyadh and other areas. In response to the increased hostilities, Sisi's commitment to support Saudi Arabia could signify a move to bolster defenses within the Gulf region.

As part of this evolving situation, the Egyptian president's pledge aligns with ongoing dialogues between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, particularly in light of directives from Saudi leadership, including King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman who have also called for protective measures.

The current developments demonstrate the fragile security landscape in the Gulf, with Saudi Arabia facing continued threats from the Houthis. Sisi's call for parliamentary backing reflects Egypt's position as a key ally in the region, ready to respond as circumstances dictate.
