Polling stations opened on Sunday in Saxony-Anhalt. Until 6:00 PM, around 1.69 million eligible voters can cast their ballots for the composition of the new state parliament. The outcome of the election is being closely monitored as it is considered potentially pivotal.

According to recent polls, the AfD (Alternative for Germany), led by candidate Ulrich Siegmund, is aiming to form a majority government. These polls show the AfD clearly ahead of the CDU, headed by Prime Minister Sven Schulze, although they still lack the votes needed for an absolute majority.

The election is being watched with special attention, as the AfD has been classified as a secure right-wing extremist party by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. In the previous elections in 2021, the CDU performed significantly better than expected, raising questions about whether a similar outcome could occur again this time.

The situation is also influenced by past election experiences, where polling institutes often failed to accurately predict actual election results. This could complicate expectations for the current election.

The results of the election are expected throughout the evening, which is of great interest to both the parties and the voters.
