Emma Oosterwegel wins silver in heptathlon, Dokter takes bronze medal

Emma Oosterwegel secured a silver medal in the heptathlon at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. The 28-year-old athlete from Deventer was already in second place after six events and managed to maintain her position in the final discipline, the 800 meters.

During the concluding 800 meters, she won her race, but this was not enough to close the gap with Ireland's Kate O'Connor, who claimed gold. O'Connor finished with 6,751 points, while Oosterwegel totaled 6,547 points.

Oosterwegel added this medal to her accolades after previously winning bronze at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. This achievement reaffirms her consistent performance in the heptathlon.

Sofie Dokter also ensured a podium finish for the Netherlands by taking the bronze medal. Her performance was significant for the Dutch team, which strives for success in athletics.

In the same event, Noor Vidts finished eleventh. She achieved a total of 6,286 points, placing her in an inconspicuous position in the final standings. Vidts' result illustrates the challenging competition within the heptathlon.
