On Wednesday morning, two trains collided at the Urda station in Toledo around 8:54 AM, resulting in several carriages derailing and 30 fatalities, as well as dozens of injuries, according to reports.

In the wake of this tragedy, European leaders have expressed their solidarity with Spain. Furthermore, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has decided to suspend 24 matches scheduled for Wednesday, including the Betis game, in a sign of respect for the victims of the accident.

The Spanish government has indicated that a failure in the control center was the cause of the accident, reporting that trains were allowed to operate at normal speed following a problem with the LZB safety system.

The leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has demanded both a governmental and judicial investigation into the accident. In various statements, he emphasized that Spain needs to clarify the condition of its railway infrastructure.

The Honduran government has activated measures to verify the potential impact on Honduran citizens involved in the accident, while several Central American countries, including Panama and Costa Rica, have sent condolences to the affected families and acknowledged the efforts of the emergency teams at the disaster site.

The Toledo accident is considered the worst rail tragedy in the country in 13 years. Rescue operations are ongoing, and official channels have been established for relatives of possible victims to inquire about the status of those affected.
