Explosion in Zaandam destroys apartment and causes fire

An explosion occurred in Zaandam, destroying an apartment and causing a fire. This took place at Hof van Zaenden during the night from Sunday to Monday, according to the Zaanstreek-Waterland safety region.

The explosion blew out the entire rear facade of the apartment. At the time of the explosion, there were no residents present in the apartment, which prevented a larger disaster.

Firefighters responded to the incident, arriving shortly before 2:00 AM. Due to the damage, residents of surrounding apartments were evacuated as a precaution, according to the safety region.

After the explosion, glass and debris littered the streets, indicating the severity of the situation. There have been no reports of injuries, but authorities remain on site to manage the situation.
