F1: Max Verstappen secures pole for Sprint in Singapore
Max Verstappen will start in pole position for the Sprint race at the Singapore Grand Prix, followed by George Russell and Charles Leclerc.

Max Verstappen has secured pole position for the Sprint race at the Singapore Grand Prix, clocking a time of 1:31.156. The Red Bull driver outpaced Mercedes' George Russell by 120 thousandths of a second. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc qualified in third, 243 thousandths behind the Dutchman, while Lewis Hamilton finished sixth, with McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris taking fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Qualifying took place at the Marina Bay circuit, where practice sessions were also held. The Sprint race is a new addition to this event, adding an extra challenge for the drivers. There were reports of delays due to rain impacting the day's schedule.
Franco Colapinto, the Argentine driver, began qualifying but failed to advance to the final session, SQ3, finishing in eleventh place after being 94 thousandths slower than his teammate, Pierre Gasly. Despite this, Colapinto remained optimistic about scoring points in the 21-lap race starting on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Ferrari team focused on improving its performance after returning to the podium in recent races. Team principal Fred Vasseur emphasized the tight competition, with minimal gaps between drivers, posing an additional challenge during the Singapore event.
The start of the Sprint race is expected to last approximately 30 minutes and is scheduled for 11:00 local time. As the Grand Prix weekend progresses, teams and drivers are working to adjust their strategies based on the weather conditions and circuit layout.
This weekend has also been marked by controversy within the FIA over what has been termed a 'human error' in the disabling of certain modes, which drew criticism from drivers like Carlos Sainz, who expressed frustration over decisions that affected some competitors' performance. This situation adds another layer of intrigue to an already thrilling event.
